impact on local, regional and international communities ranges
from creating a local government position for Roma in the
Czech Republic, to organizing a nation-wide election reform
campaign in Slovakia; from protecting citizens’ and
the environment’s needs in Argentina, to building a
regional women’s leadership network in the South Caucasus.
The following case studies, stories and lessons learned from
over ten years of work testify to the tremendous potential,
given the necessary skills and assistance, for democratic
change throughout the world.
Children & Youth
Partners empowers children and youth with skills to promote
their rights, resolve their own conflicts peacefully, and
participate in community decision-making
Civil Society
Partners builds the capacity of non-governmental organizations
and community groups to advocate for their interests and
develop collaborative community initiatives
Economic Development
Partners facilitates citizen participation processes that
result in community development projects, such as new housing
and employment opportunities, and revamped taxation systems,
government services and public spaces

Partners mediates local and cross-border environmental disputes
and strengthens citizen participation in protecting the
environment, including reducing pollution and improving

Partners enhances the ability of local government to work
with diverse constituents, manage community change and conflict,

Partners promotes the inclusion of minorities, such as Roma,
refugees, internally displaced persons, persons with disabilities,
through providing skills, facilitating inter-group dialogue,
strengthening representation in local government, and improving
education, housing and employment opportunities

Partners mobilizes communities to take an active role in
crime prevention, and works with official institutions,
such as police and prisons, to diminish conflict and discrimination

Partners seeks to develop replicable models for Roma integration
through a series of interventions at the local, national
and regional level

Partners strengthens the rule of law in communities through
building local services and institutions that prevent and
resolve conflict, improve cross-sector and inter-group relations,
