Lebanon

LebanonIn March 2004, Partners for Democratic Change conducted a study on the capacity of local civil society organizations in Lebanon to manage change and promote reform. The goal of the study was to utilize the findings to develop programs and trainings that would meet the needs of local organizations without overlapping existing efforts. Combining the information gathered by Partners during this study and the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies’ on the ground experience and knowledge, insights into the capabilities and deficiencies of the civil society sector in Lebanon have been developed.

Partners for Democratic Change (Partners), in collaboration with the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies (LCPS), launched and implemented a project entitled “The Coalition Building and Cooperative Advocacy Program for Young Leaders in Lebanon”. Support for this program has been provided by the United States Institute for Peace (USIP), the US State Department’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Building upon the existing human capital and experience in Lebanon, this program was designed to enhance the collaborative planning and advocacy skills of Lebanese youth by providing them with training in and giving them an opportunity to use conflict resolution, cooperative advocacy, and program development skills.
