Promoting Citizen Participation
Partners for Democratic Change, working with the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) is leading the training of a Moldova Citizen Participation Program (CPP). CPP is a training, mentoring and grant giving program which is empowering and assisting average citizens and citizen groups to use democratic processes to create tangible and positive change in their own local communities.
Building the capacity of local communities, CPP is developing and training a regional network of NGO hubs which conduct outreach and provide training and facilitation to local communities. Partners is mentoring twenty-four local trainers/facilitators throughout Moldova, and these local experts in turn are guiding communities through the mobilization process—from planning to implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
Partners-Romania trainers led five training of trainers events in diverse areas such as communication, cooperative planning, and project design. These trainings proved instrumental in enabling these individuals to effectively work and collaborate in supporting and facilitating participatory processes in CPP communities. Later that month, Partners-Slovakia conducted a TOT on advanced training methodologies and design for 30 trainers involved in the CPP, to further strengthen their skills in promoting citizen participation in their communities. Ten Moldovan NGO leaders learned about Polish Civil society groups' successes in poverty reduction strategies, during a six day study tour earlier this year. The tour was organized by Partners for Democratic Change & IREX and was facilitated by Partners-Poland.
