Gabriela Asmar - Sustainable Leadership Fellow from Brazil
Award-winning champion of Mediation selected as Partners Leadership Fellow
Gabriela Asmar, Center Director of Parceiros-Brasil (Partners-Brazil), has served as a mediator in corporate, family, criminal and community conflicts within the Rio de Janeiro court system and in private practice. She has been responsible for multidisciplinary teams conceiving social and environmental responsibility projects, and for designing business strategies and public policies in different sectors in Brazil. Educated as a lawyer, Ms. Asmar has worked both in Brazilian law firms and internationally as a foreign associate.
Since 2007, Ms. Asmar has dedicated herself to the development of mediation in Brazil. She is a co-founder of the Mediation Commission at the State Bar, for which she won Brazil’s Innovare Award in 2009. She is a mediation professor who has put theory into practice working on UNDP projects. In addition, Ms. Asmar acts as Conflict Resolution Network Coordinator for Brazil (an Association for Conflict Resolution project), and CONIMA (National Council of Mediation and Arbitration Entities) representative in Rio de Janeiro. As director of Parceiros Brasil, Ms. Asmar will apply her experience and expertise to the areas of peace-building, sustainable social and economic development, environmental protection, rule of law, and promoting awareness about human rights and responsibilities.
