With funding from the US Embassy in Sana’a, Partners Yemen held a Development Dialogue Forum (DDF) on March 8 -11, 2010, for key tribal, civil society, business, and governmental representatives from Mareb governorate and international and national donors and implementers. The event was launched on March 8 with a special welcome from the Governor of Mareb and the Deputy Minister of Local Administration for over 100 guests, including representatives from all major tribes in Mareb.
Plenary sessions included notable Yemeni speakers discussing health and education management in Mareb as well as the role of the local councils in community development, followed by question and answer sessions. The forum also included training opportunities for 30 Yemeni core participants in community-driven development, and closed with participants developing an action plan to better manage development in their governorate. Participants showed their appreciation for the event, as this was the first event in which local leaders from Mareb had the opportunity to speak to key international donors and even speak amongst each other as representatives of various tribes in conflict.
