On October 23, 2003, Partners conducted a successful symposium
in Washington, DC titled "Managing the Challenge of
Change in Evolving Democracies." The day included small
table discussions on the challenges facing emerging democracies.
Partners' Center representatives were present to add their
perspective to the discussions. The afternoon session included
a stimulating and enlightening panel dialogue on democracy.
A report detailing the events of the day will be available
shortly. For further information regarding this symposium,

Partners received a grant from the U.S. Agency for International
Development (USAID) to implement its four-year Roma Support
Program in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.

initiative, Partners will expand access to services and
leadership opportunities for Roma at the community level,
promote both majority and minority citizen participation
in political and economic decision-making through sustainable
community structures, counter discriminatory practices against
Roma, and contribute to a change in perception of Roma within
both majority and minority populations. Further, the program
aims to produce models of integration that can be replicated
throughout these three countries and the entire region.
