Partners Hungary
Partners Hungary Alapítvány
Partners-Hungary, established in Budapest
in 1994, provides cooperative planning, problem solving and dispute resolution
skills and services essential to the success of a democratic society. The
Center specializes in managing conflict and building consensus between
Roma and majority groups, promoting equal representation and participation for
women, and strengthening civil society in Hungary as well as abroad.
Partners-Hungary’s main areas of expertise include:
Supporting the Roma Minority: Partners-Hungary works to resolve conflicts between Roma and non-Roma groups and further crucial Roma integration efforts. The Roma are Hungary's largest minority group, numbering approximately 700,000, and have been historically marginalized -- causing high incidences of poverty, unemployment and other low socio-economic indicators. Partners-Hungary coordinates and facilitates public policy dialogues, provides small grants to improve Roma access to social services (such as education and housing), and establishes inter-ethnic Conciliation Commissions which serve as sustainable structures capable of mediating community disputes. Partners-Hungary has implemented many projects for Roma communities nationally and regionally, with high participation rates and successes.
Gender Programs: Partners-Hungary promotes the equal participation of women in decision-making processes in the non-profit and for-profit sectors. The low rate of female participation in political life, as well as impeded public and private sector advancement, reveals serious inequities after more than 20 years of political change and development. Through trainings and workshops, Partners-Hungary works with women from diverse backgrounds to take on leadership roles at local, national and European levels. Following these trainings, the women cooperatively implement micro-projects that allow the participants to utilize their management skill sets. Partners-Hungary also implements innovative management programs to foster female and male cooperation for equality and development in the workplace.
Civil Society Development: Partners-Hungary builds the
capacity of civil society to enable it to constructively contribute to a
thriving democratic society. Through trainings and long-term programs both in Hungary and
internationally, Partners-Hungary builds the skills of civil society
organizations to be effective advocates and collaborators with government
institutions. The Center works with private and public entities to promote socially responsible products, tools and institutions. By building support for participatory discussions, Partners-Hungary has engaged countless communities with corporations and other actors to ensure that their needs are addressed.
Training Programs: Partners-Hungary provides trainings aimed at promoting a culture of tolerance and collaboration throughout Hungary and internationally. The Center’s trainings cover a wide-range of crucial topics including: organizational development, mediation in social institutions and businesses, and management skills in social institutions and public services. Trainings are aimed at a large variety of participants including NGOs, public agencies, private companies, and other groups.
