Partners Promotes Collaborative Practices to Brazilian Businesses
On November 5, 2010 representatives from Parceiros-Brasil and Partners for Democratic Change participated in a conference on conflict resolution for the legal and business communities of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
On November 5, 2010, the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN) in cooperation with the Rio de Janeiro Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association (OABRJ) hosted a conference on conflict resolution and the private sector in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event aimed at raising awareness for the audience of representatives of the local business and legal communities on the benefits of mediation and other collaborative practices in the corporate world.
Panelists included Julia Roig, President of Partners for Democratic Change, who discussed multi-stakeholder dialogue and consensus facilitation; Gabriela Asmar, Executive Director of Partners-Brazil, speaking on systems design and hybrid processes; Jaidivi Nuñez, consultant of Partners Colombia, who addressed conflict resolution in schools; and Lorraine Brennan, Vice-President of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR), who spoke about commercial mediation programs worldwide. The conference helped to make collaborative practices and their benefits more known to the professional audience and the Brazilian public in general
Moreover, on November 3, 2010, Jaidivi Nuñez led a conference on School Conflict Resolution for the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Schools. More than 150 teachers and directors of local schools participated, among them the director of the program “Schools of Tomorrow”, a special program for 150 municipal schools in the most violent areas of Rio de Janeiro. The Director later stressed the importance of these concepts and the usefulness of the conference for engaging children and teenagers in the most troubled areas of Rio de Janeiro.
