John Paul Lederach, specialist in peaceful conflict transformation, shared his experiences in the field of peacebuilding in a recent visit to Buenos Aires.
During his visit to Argentina in September 2011, Professor John Paul Lederach led various activities geared at sharing the practical experience and theory behind the framework of "Conflict Transformation and Peace-building."
On September 27th, from 5pm to 9pm, Lederach gave a lecture to the general public and on September 28th-29th issued an intensive seminar for mediators and those working in the field of conflict. Both activities took place at the Faculty of Law at the University of Buenos Aires.
Based on his insight and long experience working on conflict challenges in Latin America and elsewhere, Professor Lederach has built a framework for addressing social conflicts in a comprehensive and long term way. He proposes peace-building strategies at various levels including education, dialogue facilitation, mediation and negotiation. The author also raises the challenge of building strategic and constructive joint spaces, both between the levels of higher power and broader social base, and on the other hand, among those directly in the conflict.
